Sexual Health and Integrative Pleasure
Our Framework: The SHIP Model, Sexual Health with Integrative Pleasure
At Sexology Down Under, our work is grounded in the SHIP Model (Spencer & Vencill, 2017; Walker et al., 2021), a contemporary framework for sexual health and therapy. Evolving from the original Sexual Health Model (Robinson et al., 2002), SHIP emphasises pleasure-oriented positive sexuality, intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1991), and the full scope of sexual medicine.
We use it because it treats pleasure as a vital sign of health. Sessions are as much about building confidence and intimacy as they are about fixing what has gone wrong.

Welcome to Sexology Down Under
I’m Nina, a sexologist and intimacy counsellor. I work with individuals and couples on sex, intimacy and relationships: the things that are hard to raise with friends, and harder still to raise with a partner.
Some people come to me with one specific problem. Others just know something isn’t working and can’t name it yet. Either way, the first session is where we work out what is actually going on and what to do about it.
Services
Four ways to work with me, all online. Most people start with a single session and we decide together whether more would help.

For couples
Couples Sex Therapy
Mismatched desire, arguments that go in circles, sex that has quietly stopped. Couples sessions give both of you a place to say what you actually want, and a plan for getting there.

Nina is a queer woman and a peer, not an outside observer. Sessions for anyone working through identity, coming out, or relationships that do not fit the templates most therapists were trained on.

Pornography and Sexual Health Counselling
When porn or masturbation has become a problem for you or your relationship. We look at what the habit is doing for you, set boundaries you can keep, and rebuild connection with a partner where that matters.

What happens in a session?
The first session is an assessment. We talk through what brought you here, and I’ll tell you honestly what I think will help and how many sessions it is likely to take. For low-impact problems I use a single-session approach: one concern, dealt with properly, in one sitting.
I’m a big fan of homework. Every session ends with exercises to try before the next one, because most of the change happens between sessions, not during them.
Before we meet, I’ll send a questionnaire. It means we don’t spend the first half hour on background, and it gives you a chance to write down the things that are easier to type than to say out loud.
How It Works: Your Session in 4 Simple Steps
- Get ReadyYou fill in a short questionnaire so I know what we are focusing on before we start. If anything needs clarifying, we have a quick phone call first.
- Book Your Video CallPick a time. Sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet, so you can join from anywhere in Australia.
- The SessionOne concern, one session. We work through it properly rather than skimming several. For most low-impact problems, that is enough.
- Reflect and ApplyYou leave with specific exercises to try, and we decide together whether another session would help.
Ready to talk?
Sessions are online, confidential and open to anyone in Australia. The first one is an assessment, so you are not signing up for a program.
